Sandwich and Dessert Boxes With a Window: When Do They Help?
When a window helps sell sandwiches and desserts, cellophane or PET film, how to choose the window shape and size, and how to brand the box.

If you sell sandwiches, cake slices, brownies or pastries from a counter or a fridge, the box has two jobs: protect the food and help sell it. A window does the second job. Customers see what they're buying before they pick it up.
When a window helps
A window works best when the food looks good and the customer buys on sight:
- From a fridge or counter. Grab-and-go customers decide quickly. A visible filling or a glossy cake sells without a word.
- For gifts and treats. A box of brownies or pastries looks generous through a window.
- For decorated desserts. Layers, glazes and decoration do the selling for you.
A closed printed box can be the better choice when the food is plain or messy, or when most orders are delivered and the box is opened at home. In that case the printed branding carries more of the work.
Cellophane or PET
We can make the window from cellophane or PET. Both are clear. Tell us what matters most (clarity, feel, how it will be disposed of) and we'll recommend one. You can also ask for a sample so you can see it with your own food.
Choosing the shape and size
The window can be the shape and size you choose, from a small panel to a wide strip or a large display window. A few things to think about:
- Show the best part. Place the window where the filling, the layers or the glaze show.
- A smaller window can look better. It frames the food and leaves more space for your brand.
- Match the product. A baguette suits a long, narrow window. A cake slice suits a larger panel.
We can add a window to any box, so this isn't limited to sandwiches and desserts.
Sizing the box
Boxes that are too tight squash the bread or touch the cream. Boxes that are too loose let food slide. Tell us the size of your sandwich or slice, and how tall it is at the highest point, and we'll recommend a box. Test the sample with your own food before we produce.
Branding the box
A printed box carries your logo on the counter, in the customer's bag and in their photos. We print kraft or white board, recyclable and food safe, and design the artwork with you at no extra cost. Production and delivery typically take 30 to 35 days after you approve your sample and artwork.
Summary
- A window helps sell food that looks good and is bought on sight.
- Choose cellophane or PET, and the window shape and size.
- Size the box to your food and test a sample.
- A closed printed box suits plain food and deliveries.
